I have spent most of my life floating through life. Going with the expectations and dreams of others.
It was only after my seemingly human purpose felt complete that I discovered so much more. Myself.
I spent the vast majority of my life tending to the needs of others. Wishing that things were different. Thinking that my deepest desires were known to others.
It took a great big wake up call for me to realise that my life is not in the hands of others. I am responsible for my life and my own happiness and joy!
Through much reflection, introspection and the guidance of some of the world’s greatest teachers, together with all of the life experience I had lived and taking valuable lessons from it all but most importantly self-discovery, have I been able to transform my life.
We all experience heartache, sorrow, anxiety, stress, betrayal, depression, anger as well as joy, compassion, kindness, happiness and love, to mention a few. These are all part of our human experience. It is life. Life with all of its beauty within good or bad experiences. Just like there are seasons in our climate, so too do we as humans experience seasons in our lives. The difference is that our seasons do not have a set time of occurrence nor duration so very often we are not prepared for eventualities that come.
They say wisdom comes with age.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we had the wisdom earlier on in our lives?
Many of us spend our early adulthood gathering possessions, manifesting a life that we dreamt of as children and teenagers. We possibly study, get married, build a home, have children. These things take up a fair amount of time (years) in our lives.
Then comes a time of transition, a time when the children are adults, a time where we have experienced trauma, sorrow, the loss of loved ones as well as love, happiness and joy. Perhaps enjoyed wonderful family holidays. Perhaps watched our children graduate, get married, have children of their own and begin their own journey of life. These changes happen automatically, sometimes without us being ready. Empty nest might set in, retirement might set in, illness might set in. This may be the first time that we begin to truly value the things that are most important in our lives.
It is during this time of transition that we often fall into a state of deep questioning.
Is this all there is to life?
What am I to do with the rest of my life?
Have I lived a life worth living?
